Bothmer-Gymnastic

is a holistic movement training

This training regards the human body and its specific architecture as unique.

Three dominant qualities in space influence the development of the embryo in the first few days of pregnancy:

• bilateral symmetry is created through the development of the spine,

• heart and lungs, enveloped by the rib case, hold the middle between the head and the lower body,

• the face, the stomach, the feet and the hands face forwards, the back of the head and the back face backwards.

With every spatial orientation unchangeable functions are connected, that come into being throughout the growth period of the human being. This development is directed from the head downwards. For example; sexual maturity emerges between the 12 th and the 14 th year.

The child takes hold of her body in stages, physically, emotionally and consciously. Like no other living being, humans are dependant on help, positive examples and practising. Movement training according to the developmental stages of the child will be an important factor in an education that leads the child toward developing her full potential.

Bothmer gymnastics helps the child to take hold of her body with joy and imagination. At each stage she can discover and use her new abilities. Especially in puberty the young person needs support to understand the huge changes in her physical body, her emotional life and her mental abilities. After a major transformation, the young adult can now consciously experience the qualities of the three spatial dimensions. The meaning and reason for her deeds (front- back), her feelings (above - below), and intellectual life (right- left) are transmitted through specific movement processes.

Bothmer Gymnastic exercises are not only of great value for the developing child, but also for the adult. Through difficult life circumstances the balance between right-left, front-back and above-below can be disturbed. At any age Bothmer gymnastic exercises can help to restore this balance.

The female forms she and her are used to refer to the child or adult. Both genders are of course intended.
